BBQ Raised Vegan Doughnut with
Strawberry Basil Glaze!

(I simply put the fully cooked doughnuts on the grill for a few seconds then
I dipped them in a simple vanilla glaze that I added strawberry jam and fresh basil to.)

I have an Easter egg cookie cutter which makes nice ET heads,
but I did not have it with me this day so I just formed the chin by hand

This one looks like the sous chef.

I don't like the way they look at me while I fry them

Those are "asteroids" in between the doughnuts.

Book Review: Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness by Robert Cheeke

Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness
by: Robert Cheeke

I met Robert Cheeke at VegFest 2011, Portland, OR.
Robert Cheeke is a nice guy who is passionate and driven about life.

"Believe in yourself. Whatever it is that you're passionate about, resolve to make it happen today."
-Robert Cheeke-

Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness Book Review:
True, this is a book about how to be a vegan bodybuilder, but it is much more. It is part motivational, part bodybuilding, and part vegan activist. At the early age of five, Robert set out to do what he was passionate about. He wanted to be He-Man. He-Man was a positive role model, promoting positive messages, lead by example, and had big muscles.
Congratulations Robert "He-Man" Cheeke, you did it!

This is what you will get if you buy his book:
  • Learn the lingo: Burn-out Sets, Partial Reps, Isotonic Exercise, Kipping...
  • Safety: When to use a spotter and such
  • Nutrition: Protein levels, caloric intake, supplements, and more
  • Work ethic: Be true to yourself
  • Weight training programs
  • Post exercise tips: Massage, Hydrotherapy, Yoga, Meditation...
  • Consistency is a key to success
  • The value of keeping a journal
  • Inside view on competing
  • Motivational book on any life goals you wish to obtain "Turn your passion into a career" Robert Cheeke.
  • Top 12 most-effective bodybuilding exercises
  • Resources: gyms, where to live, and recommended reading
I found this book to be both motivational and a great resource on fitness. I would recommended it to anyone interested in these areas.

Vegan Stromboli

Stromboli got its name from the movie Stromboli. Romano’s Pizza Shop of Essington, PA created the dish in the 1950’s.
Stromboli is also an active 10,000 foot volcano in the Tyrrhenian Sea at the "foot" of Italy.
Stromboli the food is a rolled "pizza."
I thought it would be fun to make a Stromboli which was large enough to cut to order.
Vegan Stromboli
Served with vegan pesto, and a balsamic marinara sauce.
Green and red are the colors of Italy.
I start with a homemade yeast dough which is made over a 3 day
period in order to develop a full body yeasty flavor.
Use a high gluten flour to develop a great texture.
Using a dough sheeter, "roll" out the dough.

Add the roasted vegetables
(red bell pepper, zucchini, onion, and mushrooms)
which have been tossed with marinara sauce.

Roll up.

Score the Stromboli to keep it from exploding like a volcano.
The score marks are later used to help with portioning.
Brush with olive oil and bake.

Take out of the oven and enjoy the
freshly baked bread aroma.
